Don’t Snow the Goalie is a women’s hockey podcast that believes in the radical idea of treating women’s sports like sports, not a special interest story. Kate Cimini, Hannah Bevis and Kate Reeher focus on happenings in both the National Women’s Hockey League and the Canadian Women’s Hockey League every week, with occasional dips into IIHF and Olympic hockey, as well as NCAA news. If it’s women’s hockey, they’re there. Bevis, Cimini and Reeher bring you the latest news and analysis in the NWHL and CWHL, including front-office moves, league happenings, game analysis, player stats, coaching decisions and more.
The first order of the day was the recent revelation that several smaller investors were seeking to file a complaint against the NWHL with the FTC. Cimini broke this down and everyone dusted off their fake buisness law degrees to talk about how reasonable or unreasonable the actions of everyone (NWHL, investors and otherwise) were. There were several very dire technical issues at this point, so please forgive any choppiness. (Hannah Bevis forgot to update her Skype >:{ )
Next, the ladies discussed Hayley Wickenheiser’s comments on Popturnative about the need for a single women’s hockey league. This is not the first time a player in either the CWHL or the NWHL has expressed this desire and Cimini is strangely adamant about getting some kind of roadmap out of Reeher and Bevis. It didn’t go so well for her.
In a move to broader sports news, the reported Russian Olympic doping scandal was discussed, including how this could impact the two Russian team players in the NWHL, Katia Smolentseva and practice player Katia Pashkevich.
Finally, the gang wrapped things up with a rousing discussion the Iron Man/Captain America franchise, including the latest, Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Reeher weirdly expressed great disdain for the Bucky Barnes and his muppety face, while Cimini and Bevis spoke called a handsome spade a handsome spade.
